Professor Alfonso R. Lima
10th Degree BlackBelt, Grand Master
Professor Alfonso R. Lima was born in Terceira Azores, (Portugal) in 1958. Mr. Lima started his Martial Arts training at age fifteen. His first years were devoted to Kenpo Karate. In 1978 Mr. Lima enlisted in the Marine Corps. While in the Marine Corps Mr. Lima was fortunate to study with one of the leading practitioners of traditional Okinawan Isshinryu Karate. At the request of his superiors he was asked to assist in the training of U.S. Marines in hand to hand combat. Upon completion of active duty he continued to train Marines in a reserve status until his discharge from the Marines.
Mr. Lima continued to study Kenpo Karate, and after attaining his Black Belt he opened his school in 1980 in Lowell, Massachusetts. In the winter of 1989 he moved his school from Lowell, Massachusetts to New Hampshire and in January of 1990 he opened his school to the public. Mr. Lima has also studied various martial arts disciplines and is currently studying Tai Chi Chuan and Wushu. He has participated in numerous tournaments, demonstrations and seminars. In December 2006 Shihan Lima was inducted into the World Martial Arts Federation, Black Belt Hall of Fame and was selected, “Kenpo Master Instructor of the Year”. In May 2014 Shihan Lima joined the ChunJiDo International Martial Arts Organization.
In 2019, Mr. Lima was elevated to 8th Dan (Hachidan) by Professor Rudy Duncan and rewarded the title Professor. With over forty-five years of martial arts experience and over forty years of teaching experience it is Mr. Lima’s personal goal to educate the community about the Martial Arts and its many benefits.
In 2022, Mr. Lima was elevated to 10th Dan (Judan) by Professor Rudy Duncan and rewarded the title Grand Master. Professor Duncan stated that Professor Lima “has made a major impact to his students and family and in the community. It was an honor that Duncan Martial Arts and the Kemchido Combat System of Masters and Grandmasters recognize his accomplishments and dedication and bestowed this honor to him.”

Shihan Scott Porter
5th Degree BlackBelt, Master Instructor
Sensei Scott started his martial arts training in 1974 and in 1979 was awarded his Black Belt and title of “Sensei” (teacher). He joined Al Lima’s Studio Of Self-Defense in July of 1992, earning his 4th degree Black Belt (Yondan) and Senior Instructor title in May of 2001 and his 5th degree in 2019.
Sensei Scott is highly dedicated and committed to the martial arts. He has participated in numerous seminars, demonstrations. He is a senior staff member of Al Lima’s Studio Of Self-Defense and is an integral part of the inner workings of the school; serving it and its students in many capacities. Sensei Scott’s dedication and commitment is one of the reasons for the continued growth and success of Al Lima’s Studio Of Self-Defense. Sensei Derrick Schommer
4th Degree BlackBelt, Senior Instructor
Sensei Derrick Schommer started his martial arts training in 1983. In October 2013 he joined Al Lima’s Studio Of Self-Defense and on October 3rd, 2015 he earned his 2nd Degree Black Belt (Nidan) and, eventually, title of Instructor. In 2019 he earned his 4th Degree Black Belt (Yondan).
Sensei Schommer is highly dedicated and committed to the martial arts. He has participated in numerous, seminars and demonstrations and studied the martial arts through a number of schools and styles. As a staff member of Al Lima’s Studio Of Self-Defense he is an integral part of the inner workings of the school; serving it and its students in many capacities. Sensei Schommer’s dedication and commitment is one of the reasons for the continued growth and success of Al Lima’s Studio Of Self-Defense. After 30 years of training his passion, commitment and dedication to the martial arts continues to grow. Sensei Schommer looks forward to continuing to learn and grow in the martial arts as well as helping other’s to achieve their goals. He believes that a Black Belt is seen through his or her actions and execution; being a black belt is part of their personal integrity in day-to-day actions, it is not just a belt worn at the dojo. Sensei Corwin Defeo
3rd Degree BlackBelt, Instructor
Corwin started his martial arts training in June, 2007. He joined Al Lima’s Studio Of Self-Defense in November, 2012. In 2019 he earned his 3rd Degree Black Belt (Sandan) and title of instructor.
Corwin is currently an instructor and a dedicated martial arts student. He has participated in numerous seminars and demonstrations and is an integral part of the inner workings of the school serving it and the students in many capacities. You can find Corwin assisting or teaching a class throughout the week. Corwin’s dedication and commitment is one of the reasons for the continued growth and success of Al Lima’s Studio Of Self-Defense.
